24. Full Circle

I often question what I have learned these past few years in college. Time is moving so fast that it’s hard to remember everything that has happened. But that is no excuse in my book. Starting this past winter break I began making lists about what I would like to learn, what I have learned and where those experiences have and hopefully will take me.

It began by brainstorming the classes I have taken the past few years, trying to remember concepts that have stayed with me. If you haven’t guessed now, the list started off awfully. I couldn’t remember anything! I felt terrible, thinking all my time here was a waste, maybe college is just a giant social experiment. BOOM. THERE IT WAS. THAT IS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED. I realized that college is not about remembering all the general education classes you are required to take. Its not about taking an exam exactly how you hope to take it, or doing your homework when you “say you will”. College is about decisions. You make them daily, sometimes so fast you don’t even know you are making them. Don’t sweat if you are questioning your time spent in college simply because you can’t remember what kind of fault line you live near, unless you are a geology major, they should probably know that. You will find your passion within the college atmosphere and I promise you will begin to prosper. Keep your head up and remember to do what you feel. A solution will present itself as long as you are open to it. A closed mind never sees the light, don’t be left in the dark.

Lastly, right before I moved to College my mom told me a quote I would never forget and I want to share it with you.

“Never let school get in the way of an education” - Jennifer Rogers

Let this quote be a facilitator of learning and character building. Let it help you through hard times and push you to be the person you want to be.

Peace and Love.

23. Garage Sales

As spring approaches we enter the perfect time of year. The weather is getting better, school is winding down, some people believe we are getting closer to football season, but most importantly we are approaching GARAGE SALE SEASON. I love everything there is to love about garage sales. As a kid my friends and I would skateboard around our neighborhood looking for garage sales to find our next adventure. We would find everything from funny t-shirts and little trinkets to VHS movies we had never seen before! Yes, I said VHS. Not only did we find these things, they were cheap! Which is very appealing to a group of 13 year old boys with a weekly allowance of about $10. I love garage sales because they allow other people to own something that may have changed someone’s life. The whole experience is very inviting and friendly if you think about it. Owners invite you on their property to sell you things that they have owned, hoping you will feel a connection to something they once did. I love asking the owners about things I am interested in buying to hear the story they tell about it, there is ALWAYS a story. That is why I truly love garage sales, the stories. Every little trinket, person, shirt, VHS and 13 year old boy on a skateboard has a story. Why not pass it on to someone else?

22. Morning Time

Each morning I set my alarm an hour ahead of my proposed schedule. I enjoy a nice slow morning with time to wake up and have a nice breakfast. I find that slowly entering the day allows me to start my day with a calm and clear mindset, perfect for an aspiring creative person. After walking to the kitchen to get my morning coffee I usually put on music that is relaxing and easy listening, just to give me a little something to wake up to. I usually aim for classical guitar or soul because both genres match my mood in the morning. However, recently I discovered a website that has changed the way I listen to music. Two nights ago during my night time “stumbling” I found a website called stereomood.com

This website allows users to choose there mood of music they would like to listen to. After choosing the mood that pertains to the user, the website generates a playlist for free streaming music! Not only does this website do a great job of picking music pertaining to a specific mood, their website has a great easy-to-use stylist interface. Whether you are studying, waking up, having a party, or listening to music with friends, I highly suggest checking out this website!
